Dheeraj Jadhav (b.1994) is an artist based in Bombay, currently pursuing MFA at Sir J.J School of Arts. His practice attempts to analyze the experience of inhabiting spaces that informs our senses of seeing, hearing, touch, taste and smell. He translates his documenting process by experimenting with drawing, painting, photography, charcoal, ink, dry pastel, watercolour, cut and paste, and oil colours, exploring ways of applying colours, managing space around and inside words. He was awarded Maharashtra State Art Award for Creative Painting. Dheeraj has been part several exhibition and workshops including Geography of Consumption at Mohile parekh centre.

In a realm where critical theory intersects with aesthetic practice, Dheeraj Jadhav offers a peculiar lens through which one explores the complex interweaving of colonial and decolonial histories through sensory documentation. His work serves as a profound reflection on the interplay between intuition, experience, and representation.

With an intuitive response to the world around him, Dheeraj embarks on a creative odyssey, delving deep into the hidden narratives woven within colonial and decolonial legacies. Blurring the boundaries of art, craft, theory, and practice, where art becomes a poignant reflection of lived realities and a meticulous documentation of the human condition.

Dheeraj invites viewers to question the colonial frameworks that have shaped our understanding of art. He confronts the complexities of identity and heritage, interrogating the colonial legacies that continue to influence the production and reception of art, while simultaneously reclaiming indigenous narratives and modes of expression.

For Dheeraj, Indian art transcends its colonial past, evolving into a dynamic tradition that embraces a multiplicity of voices and perspectives. Through his practice, he seeks to amplify the experiences of marginalized communities, particularly focusing on indigenous knowledge and practices that have sustained ecological balance in the face of colonial exploitation.

In his exploration of the Banjara Micro community, Dheeraj sheds light on the intimate relationship between women, nature, and traditional farming methods, offering a powerful counterpoint to the adverse legacy of colonialism.

Each photograph tells a different story, inviting viewers to journey through layers of meaning and experience. Deeraj celebrates the resilience of these communities, honouring their customs and traditions in the face of changing times.

In essence, his work invites us to embark on a journey of discovery, where intuition becomes a guiding force in the pursuit of truth and understanding.
