हाकारा । hākārā is an independent bilingual journal published online in Marathi and English. Founded in 2017 by Ashutosh Potdar and Noopur Desai, it is situated at the intersection of critical and creative forms of expression. At हाकारा । hākārā, we encourage dialogue across various creative and critical disciplines. Our work spans the fields of literary, performing, and visual arts, as well as reflective writing about arts and culture. In bringing together the languages of Marathi and English, and foregrounding interdisciplinary practices, we hope to bring different cultures and world views in conversation with each other. We platform independent as well as institutionally-supported researchers and creative practitioners. हाकारा । hākārā is a space for risk-taking practitioners, whose work is located in the broader context of contemporary art, culture, and society. हाकारा । hākārā is a freely accessible journal that is published thrice a year. We accept submissions in Marathi and English, across the following categories; translations, and adaptations in both languages are also welcome:

कथन / Narrative
Fiction, dramatic narratives, biographical or autobiographical writings, memoirs, travelogues, etc. Narratives in verse are also welcome.

दृश्यांगण / Panorama
Visual narratives, visual arts, photography, film and video, performances, and creative forms of material engagement, such as with paper or wood. We encourage sharing process-oriented work, and work-in-progress.

मुक्तावकाश/ Open Space
Poetry, songs, Personal Essays, prose. 

चिंतन / Reflection
Reviews, criticism, essays, debates, and reflective writing related to arts, culture and society.

संवाद / Conversation
Conversations with individuals and collectives from within the arts ecosystem, in audio, audio-visual, or text form.
