Sea of Silence

On this wondrous sea
Sailing silently
Emily Dickinson

Silence has the sweetest voice
We are submerged in the sea of silence
A slurry of sentences singe and sear
Words waging war
Phrases frayed, flinging, fringing
Syllable slings
Hurtle, hustle, and hurt
The sea is unfathomable, and life is short
Time is fleeting
Are you able to tether somewhere?
Some words, some syllables from the past
come, like a soft breeze
Seams are difficult to sew
Threads are lost, pieces are torn
Hopes of glow-worm are not glowing
on these dreary nights

I

A silence, like stars, the moon
the stone, the rock, the night,
The silence was banging on the door
It was waiting exasperatingly to get in
Its looks are now familiar, like days
It wanted to say something, but there
Was a sea of conversation between us
There was, at times, a disparity between us
What you like, I despise; what I like, you despise
You took pity on the silence
You gave an understanding look to it
It beamed with joy, finally the wait
Ended finally, the knocks heard
And now there is the sea of silence
Between us, I can’t see the sea
But the leaping and tossing waves
lay their cold touch on my feet
