Conflicted Coexistence

back

My art practice started standardly from academic or traditional studio work before shifting to a more liberal, mobile, and versatile process since I started my master’s in Art History. With the busy schedule of theory classes, reading, and writing, I struggled to keep my art practice going. Photography and digital media have always been my interest, and they ultimately helped me overcome this void. I have since been developing my creativity through media arts.

My media artworks are an investigation into representations of (seemingly) concrete ages and situations as well as depictions and ideas on nature, the body, identity, environment, and the co-existence of flora-fauna and humans. By emphasizing aesthetics, I often create work from photographs that I had clicked previously, photo-manipulating them with elements, creating motion pictures, short bit videos, and gifs related to a particular concept. Using various photo and video editing apps, and adding music and glitch effects, my artworks undergo a transformation with multiple hidden or overlapped layers that gives the viewer a visual trip. I find this process of art making more interesting and playful than working analogue, as it allows me to explore new perspectives, which are limited in an analogue art practice.

This particular series of images has, at its crux, a deliberate secrecy and a hidden message. Multiple overlapping layers come together to form a single expression of a concept.
