माया निर्मला ह्या शासकीय आणि बिगरशासकीय संस्थांमधल्या विकासप्रकल्पांविषयी संशोधन आणि मूल्यमापन करतात. त्या विकास-उपक्रमांविषयीच्या योजना आखतात, तसेच विकासप्रकल्प आणि मानवी विकास निर्देशांकांविषयीचे अहवाल लिहितात. गेल्या काही वर्षांत त्यांचे साहित्यकृतींवरील टीकानिबंध आणि अनुवाद ह्या स्वरूपाचे लेखन अक्षरनामा, हाकारा, मुक्तशब्द, परिवर्तनाचा वाटसरू, आणि वायर-मराठी ह्या नियतकालिकांमध्ये प्रकाशित झाले आहे.

Maya Nirmala works as a development professional with government and non-government organizations, primarily conducting research, monitoring and evaluation, and designing development initiatives. She has written about the same including Human Development Reports. She has also published critical essays and translations on literary works in periodicals such as Aksharnama, Hakara, Muktashabd, Parivartancha Vatsaru and Wire-Marathi.
