
Chinmay Dharurkar
Chinmay Dharurkar is a trained linguist and a polyglot. He has earned his PhD from Dept. of HSS, IIT Bombay (2018) entitled ‘Comparing Phoneme, Morpheme and Zero in Panini and Modern Linguistics’ which won the Award for Excellence in Thesis Writing given by IIT Bombay. He taught at Dept. of Linguistics, Central University of Kerala, Kasaragod (2013-2020) before he was offered a joint appointment at United International College, Zhuhai, China. He has been with Dept. of HSS, IIT Kanpur since January 2023. He has translated essays/excerpts from the works of Saussure, Barthes, Foucault, Lefevere and Sontag and several others with Prof. Milind Malshe into Marathi. He has also co-translated ‘The Naïve and the Sentimentalist Novelist’ by Orhan Pamuk into Marathi with Dr. Jahnavi Bidnur. He is translating Kusumagraj’s Muktayan into Urdu. He has published research papers in academic journals and conference proceedings. He has written encyclopedic entries for the Marathi Encyclopaedia, journalistic articles for newspapers and online portals, and articles in Diwalis issues in Marathi. He has worked as a member of the committee for the revision of the Maharashtra government’s dictionary of Governance. He posts his Urdu poetry with auto-translation in English @chinmayshubhada on Instagram.
